“Red lips: check. Feathered bangs: check. Legendary jumpsuit: check.” Netflix has released the first look at their new show, “Selena: The Series.” On top of that, the official cast was also disclosed.
The show will star Christian Serratos as Selena Quintanilla. Serratos is most known for her role as Rosita Espinosa on AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”
In the YouTube trailer, Netflix describes the series as “a coming of age story that follows Selena Quintanilla as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.”
The show will also star “Desperate Housewives” alum Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla, Selena’s father, and “The Purge” star Gabriel Chavarria as A.B. Quintanilla, Selena’s eldest brother, according to Netflix's official press release. It has also been revealed that Noemi Gonzalez (“The Young and the Restless”) will play Selena’s sister and best friend Suzette Quintanilla. Seidy Lopez (“Training Day”) will play Marcella Quintanilla, Selena’s mother, and Madison Taylor Baez, 9, will play a young Selena.
“Selena: The Series” will be produced by the production company Campanario Entertainment and Jaime Dávila, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quintanilla, Simran A. Singh, and Moisés Zamora will all serve as executive producers.
“Selena is an inspirational figure who’s transcended generations. At Campanario, we’ve always known it was crucial for this series to find actors with the right mix of talent, charisma, and passion to honor Selena’s legacy and the story of her family,” Jaime Davila, president and co-founder of Campanario Entertainment, said in the official statement.
“Our casting director Carla Hool and her team have found an amazing cast to depict the Quintanilla family, and we’re sure fans everywhere will be captivated yet again by Selena’s incredible life.”
Netflix has confirmed that that principal photography on the show began last month. The drama series will include six, one-hour episodes.
Part one of “Selena: The Series” airs in 2020 on Netflix.
