In the southernmost Florida Keys, chickens can be found just about anywhere but it's unusual to find them paddleboarding with their owners. However, a woman here, Karly Venezia, has a one-year old Rhode Island Red named Loretta and she often goes paddleboarding with her red rooster in Islamorada.

“Paddleboarding is very calming and I like hanging out with Loretta. Coming out here and getting to enjoy boating and the beautiful sunsets is what makes living in the Keys so special,” Venezia was quoted as saying in a Fox News report published Thursday.

According to Venezia, Loretta is very curious and is not afraid of the water at all. Talking to Fox13, she said, “Loretta is very curious and follows us around the yard, and living in the Florida Keys, we like to get out on the water so it seemed natural to take Loretta paddleboarding and boating, and other things that we do with our dogs." Paddleboarding gives her quality time to hang out with her chicken, averred the pet owner.

Venezia explained her rooster maintained perfect balance on a paddleboard. The bird was always ready for an outing on the blue waters, according to her owner.

According to various reports, Venezia often paddleboards for a few hours in the evening and she enjoys the companionship of her feathered paddleboarding partner who squats calmly at the front of the board and enjoys the beautiful sunset.

In a similar manner, in June 2016, a hen named Monique along with its owner, Guirec Soudee, was reported to be on boat for quite a long period. BBC reported the two were on a world tour since May 2014.

Soudee told the BBC that the hen was an ideal choice. “It doesn’t need that much looking after and I’m able to get eggs at sea. People told me it wouldn’t work, that the hen would be too stressed and wouldn’t lay eggs. But there was no problem, she laid eggs straight away. She adapted to it perfectly,” he added.
