[Watch] Looters Ransack Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom In ‘Planned’ Attack
As many as 80 looters targeted a series of high-end stores in the San Francisco Bay area over the weekend, stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise in what police are calling a “planned event.”
A Nordstrom in Walnut Creek, California, was ransacked on Saturday night, while social media videos also caught looters running out of Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry, and Bloomingdale’s in Union Square, California, loaded with stolen merchandise, according to local reports.
Merchandise stolen was estimated to be worth over $1 million, KABC, an ABC affiliate out of San Francisco, reported.
On Saturday, looters were caught on video at the Nordstrom looting as thieves carried luggage and bags from the department store to dozens of cars waiting outside for them. According to the police, all but three of the 80 thieves got away.
Inside Nordstrom, two store employees were assaulted – one was pepper-sprayed.
The Walnut Creek police said in a statement, the mob looting was “clearly a planned event.” Police officials are continuing their investigation and are “reviewing surveillance footage in an attempt to identify other suspects responsible for this brazen act.”
Looting also occurred Friday night in at least 10 luxury stores in Union Square, and also on Sunday at a mall jewelry store in Hayward, California, where a smash-and-grab tactic was used to steal merchandise from glass cabinets, the Washington Post reported.
These are not the only incidents of theft in the San Francisco area that have happened recently. Walgreens and CVS have closed stores in the area due to organized crime that have also cost them thousands of dollars.
