A massive great white shark was spotted lurking a mile off a popular West Australian beach, the latest of such sightings, which have triggered fear among beachgoers.

The 19-foot shark, believed to be one of the biggest white sharks ever spotted in Australian waters, was captured by film maker Dave Riggs on Saturday at Esperance's Fourth Beach.

The drone footage, which went viral after being shared online Saturday, shows the shark circling a 27-foot-long patrol boat owned by the Western Australia Department of Transport.

The video came amid growing concerns of increased shark sightings near the popular beach and a day after the documentary maker filmed another 13-foot shark stalking West Beach off the same coastline.

"I got a tip off that a shark was out at Westies so I grabbed my drone and put it up," Riggs told PerthNow. "I reckon it had to be about four meters and it looked as though it had been fed."

Sharing the video on his Facebook account, Riggs wrote that the sharks could have been drawn near the coast by dead sperm whales.

“Esperance has had a drama with small white shark / human interactions at Kelp Beds every year for some time now," he wrote. “Those sharks are quite light in colour… The ones that are here right now are pretty much black, like they have followed the dead sperm whales we have on the beach down here."

Esperance witnessed a brutal shark attack in April when Laeticia Brouwer, 17, was killed after a shark attacked her while she was surfing with her father off the south coast of Western Australia.

Her father dragged her to the shore and tried “everything he could to save her” but could not as the shark had mauled the girl to death.
