WATCH: Shark Refuses To Let Go Of Swimmer's Stomach In Florida
A graphic video has emerged online which shows a Florida man struggling with a small shark that latched onto his stomach and refused to let go.
According to reports, the small nurse shark bit Clay County resident Ervin Maccarty who had gone fishing off the coast of Marathon, Florida, over the Labour Day weekend. A video of the shark clinging to Maccarty’s stomach after he comes out of the water has been doing the rounds recently.
In the video, the Florida man can be heard screaming in pain after he climbs onto the boat from the water. “Don’t cut me! Don’t bleed him out on me!” he says as a friend attempts to cut away the shark from his body.
“He didn’t get your penis, did he?” another friend says, trying to inject some humor into the situation as blood is seen spurting everywhere.
"Stab him, stab the shark," a woman is heard, shouting off camera. The friends eventually manage to remove the shark’s teeth from his belly and wash off the blood to survey the bite mark on his lower abdomen.
Maccarty told Daily Mirror: "I was taking lunch break on boat while another six people were in the water retrieving lobsters. One of them came up for air and says he shot a grouper [any of numerous species of large-mouthed heavy-bodied fish] with a spear gun and that the grouper was stuck.”
He then said the captain of the boat enlisted him to go in and get the grouper out.
"As soon as I get down there the shark came out of another hole and bit me. I struggled getting back to the boat. It knocked the breath out of me so I had to get up for air but I felt the shark biting and trying to tear me open,” Maccarty said, describing the terrifying experience.
"It wouldn't let go so I had to hold it tight with both hands so it wouldn't rip me open and I had to get up for air with the shark pulling me down ... It was a struggle and wore me out,” he added.
