The two ended up collecting 20,000 Philippine pesos ($360) from the cash register, Philippine media outlet ABS-CBN News reported.

However, Alevarez accidentally shot himself with his revolver after he placed the gun inside a bag during their escape, police said.

Authorities later received information of a man with a bullet wound being spotted, which resulted in Alevarez being caught in the neighboring municipality of Oton.

Staff at the gas station identified Alevarez, and he was taken to a hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound in the thigh.

Meanwhile, Delacruz turned himself in to police in Iloilo City and was arrested.

A bag containing 20,000 Philippine pesos ($360) was retrieved from the two men.

Police in Santa Barbara detained Alevarez and Delacruz. Both of them have been charged with robbery.

In a similar incident that happened recently, a 24-year-old man in New York accidentally shot himself while trying to fend off two thieves.

The man, who was not identified, was browsing a jewelry store in the Bronx's Longwood neighborhood on May 10 when two men entered the store and attempted to grab a chain from around his neck, ABC 7 reported.

In an attempt to defend himself, the man pulled out a handgun. However, he ended up accidentally shooting his right leg during the encounter.

The two men who grabbed his chain were able to make off with the accessory and jumped into a car that was parked outside.

The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

Police later launched a search for the two men who stole the man's chain, as well as the woman who drove their getaway car.
