KEY POINTS

  • 2023 has already produced some wild moments in the NBA
  • Draymond Green sent NBA Twitter to a frenzy with a mysterious pass to Klay Thompson
  • The Warriors have won five straight, even without injured superstar Steph Curry

The first few days of 2023 have already brought about some pretty crazy moments in the NBA.

The 38-year-old LeBron James scored 40-plus points in back-to-back games, Klay Thompson turned back the clock and dropped 54 points on ten three-pointers, and Donovan Mitchell put up 71 points to become just the seventh player in NBA history to record 70 or more points in a single game.

Amidst the offensive explosions that the league has seen as of late, there was one particular play that had NBA Twitter abuzz, and it wasn't even a rim-shaking dunk or a highlight-reel-worthy Hail Mary heave from half-court.

Instead, it was a split-second handoff from Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

Here's the play in question.

This particular clip has been shared multiple times—in various languages—on Twitter, and has left NBA fans confused and befuddled as to how it all transpired.

The clip, which was taken from Golden State's 143-141 double-overtime victory over the Atlanta Hawks, showed a Warriors possession wherein Donte DiVincenzo passed the ball to Green as the latter was setting a screen for Thompson.

Thompson curled behind Green and then all of a sudden already had the ball in his hands.

What had fans bamboozled is that Green, even on multiple close inspections, never looked like he had passed the ball.

Even after multiple slow-motion replays, Green never moved like he was handing the ball off to Thompson.

Is Draymond Green a magician? Is he actually a wizard disguised as an NBA player? Not likely.

There's obviously a scientific answer to this mysterious play, but looking at it from the naked eye, it's hard to explain how Green was able to get the ball to his hot-shooting teammate.

Fortunately for Green, Thompson and the Warriors, they appear to have found a bit of magic and have gotten their groove back.

Even without leading scorer and two-time MVP Steph Curry, the defending champions have managed to put together five-straight wins, which came after a slump that saw them lose seven of nine outings.

This hot streak has the Warriors at two games above .500 at 20-18, and currently sitting in the ninth seed in the Western Conference.

Curry is expected to be re-evaluated on Saturday, January 7, and should the Warriors maintain this hot streak and get Curry back soon, it's likely that they're primed for another deep playoff run.
