Bodycam footage showed several officers apprehending Toscha Sponsler in Lufkin after she had shoplifted from a store, CBS-affiliate KWES reported Tuesday. The camera switched views and featured Sponsler sulking in the back of the police cruiser. She somehow removed her seatbelt and handcuffs and slipped into the front seat.

Another angle from a police body cam showed police officers gathered around Sponsler’s belongings, and that’s when she escaped. The officers sprang toward the cruiser and managed to open the car door as she pulled off. Officers followed the suspect and a high-speed chase ensued. Speeds reached about 100 miles per hour, KWES reported.

"God dang," one officer shouted as the suspect sped off.

Dashcam footage showed Sponsler speeding away as she weaved in between other officers who tried to stop her. She drove recklessly, dipping in and out of multiple traffic lanes before ultimately losing handle of the car. Sponsler ended up sedentary in a grassy area as the cruiser stalled.

The police officers galloped over to the car as it remained stationed in the grass. They attempted to open the door but Sponsler had apparently locked it. One officer broke the window while another officer managed to retrieve Sponsler from the vehicle and apprehend her again.

Along with Sponsler's prior shoplifting charge, officers tacked on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, escape causing serious bodily injury, aggravated assault against a public servant, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest with a vehicle.

After the chase, the police department installed a device in between the front and back seats of all their squad vehicles so as to prevent a similar incident, according to KWES.

Sponsler is currently being detained on bonds equaling $18,000.
