Eight states are under Winter Weather Advisories, including Alaska and Colorado, where up to 12 inches of snow accumulation is expected. Officials have urged citizens to practice caution while traveling as roads may become slippery due to winter weather conditions.

In Anchorage, Alaska, heavy snow is expected through Thursday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Anchorage said. The highest snow accumulation is expected in the Valdez area, where up to 18 inches of snow is possible, the office said.

In the Yukon Valley and Yukon Delta areas, wind gusts of up to 55 mph are expected, as well as near blizzard conditions that could make it difficult for travel, the NWS in Fairbanks said.

In Colorado, the NWS in Grand Junction is expecting snow accumulation of up to 12 inches in Telluride, while the NWS in Boulder is expecting up to 8 inches of snow in the Vail area.

On Tuesday, Walden, Colorado, logged the coldest spot record for the day in the state when temperatures dropped to 11F (-11.6C).

Officials in Oregon are expecting only moderate snow accumulation in the state Wednesday, but they have encouraged residents to drive slowly as snow may still cover roads.
