The Cleveland Browns parted ways with longtime quarterback Baker Mayfield this offseason, but Myles Garrett and the rest of the team just received the motivation they needed to beat him this season.

Buffalo Bills sideline reporter Cynthia Frelund relayed the message that Mayfield had for his former teammates in a recent appearance on the Around The NFL podcast.

"Go kick some butt, especially Week 1, I like cannot wait. And he (Baker Mayfield) uses some expletives. He's like, 'I'm gonna bleep them up,'" Frelund recounted.

When asked by Dan Hanzus if Mayfield used the f-bomb, Frelund confirmed that he did and later told the Charlotte Observer that she was only wishing him well in his new venture with the Carolina Panthers.

But as expected, Garrett and the Browns caught wind of the situation and while he holds no ill will towards his former quarterback for the statement, it may have lit a fire under them to beat the Panthers in Week 1.

"We've known he [Baker Mayfield] has that type of demeanor and that attitude, and for better or for worse, it works for him and I'm not mad at him using that fire and that chip on his shoulder to help him play to the level he has. He's been successful in what he's done," Garrett told Cleveland.com.

"It does the same for us as well. We'll take it and we'll use it, and I'm hoping for a great matchup. I don't think any less of him because he's going out there and doing the same thing he did when he was with us."

Outside observers knew that Mayfield's time in Cleveland was coming to an end when the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans in a blockbuster deal that featured a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million deal.

Mayfield was then sent to the Panthers for a 2024 conditional fifth-round pick and will be looking to resurrect his career there.

Entering training camp, the question on everyone's mind was whether Mayfield could beat out Sam Darnold for the starter role.

It was then reported last week that Mayfield won the role and will start against his former franchise in Week 1.

Garrett and the Browns' defense are going to enter the Panthers' home field of Bank of America Stadium on September 11 with a chip on their shoulder as they look to spoil their former comrade's debut.
