After Berlusconi flirted with a parliamentarian named Mara Carfagna, Lario wrote a letter to the left-leaning newspaper La Repubblica and expressed her outrage and demanded a public apology from her husband. She also attacked him for consorting with young ladies.
The couple officially separated in May 2010. Lario received 3.5-million euros annually in the settlement.
