Wendy Williams will not be returning to her eponymous talk show despite being away from it for about six months.
On Thursday, “The Wendy Williams Show” announced on social media that instead of having the famous TV personality back on her iconic purple chair, it will continue its streak of having guest hosts run the show.
In an Instagram post, the show revealed that Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Michael Rapaport, Bevy Smith, Terrence J and Sherri Shepherd are returning for the month of February to fill in for Williams. The announcement did not indicate if the titular host would be coming back soon.
The post received mixed responses from the netizens. Several asked about Wendy’s return, while some said they were done with the show because its original host may not be coming back. Others joked about the situation and expressed their excitement for the next lineup of guest hosts.
“No one wants to watch ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ without Wendy Williams,“ one wrote.
“Oh, Wendy. I don’t even know what to say. I’m giving up on this show,” another commented.
“Love the guest hosts, but Wendy, are you ever coming back?” a third user asked.
“Excellent selections! I can’t wait to see who the guest hosts are for March, April and May!” Perez Hilton wrote.
“Y’all should get Wendy Williams to guest-host. Word is she’s pretty good at it,” a different netizen joked.
After the announcement, Page Six reached out to Williams’ rep and asked about the host’s possible return this season. However, the rep only said, “Don’t overreach.”
The latest announcement suggests that it would be six months since the delayed premiere of the talk show in early October due to Williams’ absence to her still-undetermined return to the show.
The Season 13 premiere — originally scheduled for September 2021 — was initially delayed after Williams tested positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19. It was pushed back again after the revelation that Williams was going through some health issues, as per Entertainment Tonight.
With the latest announcement of new guest hosts and Wendy’s extended hiatus, Page Six said it might be time for Williams to call it a day on the current season.
