Wendy Williams' son, Kevin Hunter Jr., could not afford to pay his apartment's rent.
Williams' son was hit with an eviction lawsuit in August after failing to pay the $70,000 monthly rent of his luxury $2 million apartment in Miami. He reportedly started to fail to pay in February, according to the documents obtained by Page Six.
The court papers included a copy of Hunters' lease, showing Williams paid $100,000 upfront for the first year. However, he was unable to push through with the payment in the succeeding months because the TV host's bank account was frozen by Wells Fargo due to concerns about her behavior.
"Even though my name is on the lease, my mom was paying, and for medical and legal reasons, she has not been able to pay the rent for the past months since the 1-year lease ended, and the court has controlled her finances," Kevin Jr. said.
He added, "All of this happened suddenly, and all of the financial support that she always gave me stopped, including my housing."
The Sun also reported about Kevin Jr. being evicted from his apartment. "Everything happened very quickly and unexpectedly, and I had no idea," he reportedly said in the documents, adding that he would be moving out on Sept. 7.
Kevin Jr. is not the only person whose living condition was affected by Williams being put under financial guardianship. Her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter Sr., also claimed that he could face foreclosure if his alimony payments don't resume.
In the court filing obtained by The Sun, Kevin Sr. claimed that the monthly payments made by his ex-wife as agreed to in their divorce suddenly stopped in February 2022. He told the court that his livelihood depends on the payments agreed in their marital settlement agreement.
"I have fallen behind on most of my bills. I currently live in a community that requires payments to the homeowners association, and I'm behind on that bill," Kevin Sr. said. "If the homeowners association fees are not paid foreclosure will soon follow."
In February, Williams' denied the allegations about her mental health, insisting that "she is fine" and "she is of sound mind" and filed a temporary restraining order against Wells Fargo for denying her access to her assets. She also asked a judge to order the bank to "reopen my frozen accounts or assets" and grant her "access to any and all accompanying statements."
However, the court supported the bank's move and decided to appoint a financial guardian for Williams, to which she disagreed.
"Please be advised that Wendy is not in agreement with the appointment of a financial guardian by the court. Wendy has been very clear that she does not want a financial guardian to tell her what she can and cannot do with her money," Williams' lawyer LaShawn Thomas told Page Six.
