A West Virginia man, who bludgeoned his girlfriend's 7-year-old boy to death with a hammer and stabbed the child’s mother, was indicted Tuesday.
Rashad Thompson, 34, was arrested on March 18 on charges including first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, attempted first-degree murder, malicious wounding and domestic battery, after cops found the boy’s blood-soaked body inside an apartment complex in the city of Beckley, the authorities had said in a statement.
Thompson had reportedly carried out the assault at around 2.45 a.m. ET, and when the police arrived, they found the mother of the child, identified as Felicia Brown, at a neighbor’s home, WCHS reported.
She had suffered stab wounds to her face and was profusely bleeding, WSAZ had reported. Brown told investigators she had been stabbed by her boyfriend, and that the 7-year-old child was still inside the apartment with the assailant. When the police entered the apartment, they found a hammer covered with blood lying on the living room floor.
Soon, the police discovered the body of the child lying on the couch with extreme trauma to the left side of his head. A criminal complaint stated the boy was repeatedly hit by the hammer, the outlet reported.
The neighbor told the cops Brown had run down to her for help and woke her up by banging on her door. When the unidentified neighbor answered, she saw Brown had been stabbed in the face. The neighbor said Brown requested her to accompany her to her home to get her 7-year-old and 2-year-old children.
The neighbor managed to save the 2-year-old child and fled upon seeing Thompson emerging from the kitchen. When the neighbor returned to Brown’s house to fetch the 7-year-old, she found Thompson repeatedly striking a part of the couch. When she returned a third time, she saw the 7-year-old boy’s lifeless body on the side of the couch Thompson was striking.
Brown was rushed to a hospital where she was listed in critical condition. She has survived her injuries.
"I just lost it," Thompson allegedly told the police during his arrest.
