“Westworld” star Jimmi Simpson had one of the best roles in the first season of the HBO sci-fi series, but unfortunately, his time with the series seems to have come to an end.

During the Season 1 finale of “Westworld,” it was revealed that Simpson’s character, young William, grew up to be the mysterious Man in Black (Ed Harris), a regular park-goer who has a penchant for hurting hosts.

Harris has already confirmed that he will be back next season, but Simpson isn’t certain about young William’s return. “So far, my involvement in that is unclear. If they have more for William, I would assume it would be a whole new kind of story. Because I feel like this story, the love affair [with Evan Rachel Wood’s character, Dolores], we know everything, we know what happens, we don’t have to belabor that point,” he told GQ Magazine.

However, Simpson said if show creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy would come up with an interesting storyline for his character, then he would not hesitate to return. “But if they have a reason — I mean, it was the greatest set I’ve ever worked on. But we’re all speculating what Season 2 will be, and I think it’ll be something that will blow our minds, to the degree that the first season did. But I wouldn’t be surprised if William showed up season three or something,” he said.

As for Jeffrey Wright, he believes that his character Bernard Lowe will be given a meatier role next season, especially after the death of his boss, Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins). “There’s this suggestion that Bernard is the captain now. So there’s a lot to be explored next year,” he told The Daily Beast.

“Westworld” Season 2 will return to HBO in 2018.
