Whether or not your vehicle will be stolen may depend on how large its engine is. According to a new study by Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), cars and trucks with high horsepower engines are the primary targets of would-be car thieves.

Consumers with high-powered vehicles like the Dodge Charger and Hellcat often find themselves a victim of car theft. But they are not alone as a bevy of vehicle models are in demand and stolen with the trend gravitating toward big power, luxury models, and pickup trucks.

“The models most likely to be stolen tend to be powerful, pricey or pickups, but vehicle theft is also a crime of opportunity,” Matt Moore, senior vice president at HLDI said. “Better security features on all vehicles would be the best way to address the problem.”

The most stolen vehicles with model years of 2016 to 2018 are:

  1. Dodge Charger HEMI
  2. Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
  3. Infiniti QX50 4-door
  4. Infiniti QX80
