What Careers Make Bad Spouses? Divorce Lawyer Gives Her Personal Assessment
Finding the perfect spouse can be a challenge, which may be why one particular video on TikTok has gone viral for its advice from a divorce lawyer on which men to avoid as husbands.
The video, which has garnered over 1.6 million views as of Wednesday morning, was created by @Jettiegirl28, who was identified by Business Insider as Katie K. Leonard, founder and managing partner of The Leonard Firm in Atlanta.
According to Leonard, there are five professions, generally speaking, that women should avoid in a husband based on her experience as a divorce lawyer. She said in the video that these men typically are “narcissistic,” “controlling,” and are considered “gods” in their professions.
According to Leonard, who refers to herself as KK in her TikTok profile, these careers held by men, listed in no particular order, are firemen, police officers, military members, surgeons, and pilots.
However, KK was quick to point out that there are exceptions or “outliers” and not all men who have these professions are bad spouse. But generally, she said, they can be difficult to deal with.
“They tend to be far more difficult in dealing with a divorce," KK said in the video. "They have kind of a 'nuke the earth, you know, scorch the earth, how dare you challenge me' kind of approach to litigation.
“If you’re a policeman, you’re walking around with a gun, you’re walking around with authority.
“If you’re a surgeon, you’re walking around the hospital. Everybody looks up to you, you’re in charge, everybody treats you with respect. And then, you come home and all the sudden somebody’s asking you to take out the trash,” she said, adding: “I think that’s a difficult transition to make.”
To compliment KK’s comments about which men make the worst spouses, she made another TikTok video about the top profession to avoid in women as a spouse. She claims, with some hesitation, is a stay-at-home mom.
"When you're divorcing a stay-at-home mom, they're paralyzed with fear, and rightfully so because their whole lives are about to change," KK said. "Stay-at-home moms are dealing with a lot of financial instability and may have concerns about returning to work after a long employment absence.
"There's lots of things that they don't know financially about what's going on, so they tend to stick their head in the sand and stall,” she added.
The second video about the top profession men should avoid in a spouse received 4 million views at the time of writing. KK said that she knew the video would hurt a lot of people when she posted it, and it could be her last TikTok video.
KK has since posted other videos about why people cheat and why marriages with higher-earning women don’t work, among others.
