What Is Circus Town? Las Vegas Show Producers Have New Plan For Unincorporated Desert Community
Spiegelworld, a live entertainment company known for Las Vegas Strip shows like "Absinthe" and "Opium," has plans to create a "Circus Town" after purchasing an unincorporated desert community near the Nevada border with California in early 2022.
Spiegelworld reportedly bought Nipton, an 80-acre California town located about 65 miles from Las Vegas, for more than $2.5 million in cash. The sale and the plans for Circus Town have drawn greater attention after a report Tuesday by the Wall Street Journal.
Spiegelworld describes Circus Town as a "place where visitors and passers-by can have an experience unlike anything else." Along with an "art-directed, luxury accommodation and restaurant experience for a limited number of visitors."
Spiegelworld is known for its daring and sexy shows, so buying a nearby desert town to create a world for circus performers is not considered a stretch.
"It will be a living town where Spiegelworld artists and performers will retreat to dream, create, and undertake unfettered artistic experimentation which will feed into the creation of Spiegelworld's world class shows," the company said.
Ross Mollison, an Australian man who founded Spiegelworld, said in a press release that the company has been interested in the area for a while, and they also plan to be extremely respectful to the desert land.
"Having a rambunctious circus company purchase a small town may sound like the Schitt's Creek spin-off series. But that couldn't be further from the truth. When we visited as guests a few years back, we fell in love with the peacefulness, the vast desert vistas, and the fireside chats with freight train drivers, miners and workers," Mollison said.
Nipton has a population of about 25 people. It was previously bought by a cannabis company.
