What Did Blake Lively Have To Say About Those 'Gossip Girl' Memes?
Serena van der Woodsen approves this message. Blake Lively, the 32-year-old actress who rose to fame on The CW’s “Gossip Girl,” has not only caught on to the currently trending memes that use images from the series, but has also decided to participate in some of the fun.
“The Rhythm Section” actress shared her own take on the meme but did so while also conveying an important message, according to BuzzFeed.
“What should I wear to the supermarket?” read the meme Lively posted to her Instagram Story on Wednesday. “Gloves girl.”
The meme format is a photo of Lively’s character from the show, Serena, looking inquisitively with a photo below her — a promotional still of Blair (played by Leighton Meester) and an overlay of the “Gossip Girl” title. People have then been placing the different text of questions or statements over Serena’s face while rearranging the letters that spell out “Gossip Girl” into responses.
The memes have become an instant hit in the past week, and Lively’s own use of the meme proves the wide circulation of their reach.
“Gossip Girl” was Lively’s big break into the acting world as a teenager playing the iconic “it” girl of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The show ran for six seasons from 2007 to 2012 and still remains a pivotal part of pop culture in many instances.
Now, a mother of three with husband Ryan Reynolds, Lively has turned her attention to helping provide for struggling families during the COVID-19 pandemic. She and Reynolds have donated large sums of money ($1 million and $400,000, respectively) to various organizations like Feeding America, Food Banks Canada, and multiple hospitals in New York to help pay for materials to fight the pandemic, Harper’s Bazaar reported.
It’s possible Lively might appreciate the humor of the memes or have seen it as an opportunity to spread more awareness about safety measures during COVID-19, or both.
