There’s plenty on the line for the contestants in the newest season of MTV’s “The Challenge.” The cast of “Final Reckoning” will compete for the chance to win $1 million when the show premieres Tuesday night at 9 p.m. EDT.

“Final Reckoning” features 15 teams of two, and each team is made up of a pair of rivals. That could mean the winners will take home close to $500,000 each, though you never know what surprises and twists will be in store up until the final episode.

It was just two years ago on “Rivals III” that the team of Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio and Sarah Patterson won “The Challenge” for the first-place prize of $275,000. When given the choice of splitting the money with his partner or taking it all for himself because he performed better in the final, Bananas kept the entire $275,000 and left Sarah with nothing.

Two seasons later, Jordan Wiseley and Camila Nakagawa made “Challenge” history on “XXX: Dirty 30.” Both contestants took home $450,000 for finishing in first place on the show’s 30th season.

Cara Maria Sorbello became the only solo winner last season with a first-place finish on “Vendettas.” She took home more than $370,000 for her efforts.

The winner of “Final Reckoning” won’t be revealed for another few months, though the show has already completed filming.

“It’s not like I don’t need the money, because everybody needs the money...but it’s the actual winning. It’s knowing that I did it, and you want to scream it from the mountains,” Cara Maria told International Business Times when asked about not being able to immediately share the news of winning “Vendettas.”

Bananas holds the record with six “Challenge” championships, and his total earnings are approaching $700,000. If he wins “Final Reckoning,” he’ll become the first contestant that’s won over $1 million on the show.

Cara Maria is second in total winnings, while Jordan and Camila are the only other contestants that have raked in over half a million dollars. Chris “CT” Tamburello is fifth on the all-time list, having won a little over a quarter of a million dollars during his “Challenge” tenure.

After winning “Vendettas,” Cara Maria will be paired with Marie Roda. Brad Fiorenza and Kyle Christie, CT and Veronica Portillo and Zach Nichols and Amanda Garcia are some of the other notable teams.

Bananas’ partner has not been revealed before the “Final Reckoning” premiere.
