What To Expect From Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton And The Royal Family In 2019
2018 was a big year for the royal family, which saw two new babies and two big weddings take place, in addition to other big events, such as Prince Charles’ 70th birthday and centenary celebrations for the Commonwealth. However, 2019 could also shape up to be a big year for the House of Windsor.
The royal family doesn’t appear to be slowing down when it comes to their plans for the next calendar year, despite having a full calendar of exciting events take place in 2018. While it may be hard to top the royal weddings of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, some big stuff is certain to happen. Here are some big things to potentially look forward to.
Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall:
While it’s not expected that Queen Elizabeth would decide to abdicate the throne and allow Prince Charles to officially take over as the King of England, expect her Majesty to continue scaling back on some of her royal engagements and delegating them to her son. There will likely be a day in the not-so-distant future when the line of succession will see the next heir take the throne, and more preparations, such as the delegation of more tasks, will allow for that eventual transition to be a smoother one.
As for Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles, the two aren’t expected to have any large celebrations on their calendar. Following the Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday in 2018, the two are likely to enjoy a quieter year in that regard.
Prince William and Kate Middleton
While there is nothing specific that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced for their fans to look forward to, royal watchers everywhere are still placing bets that Middleton will announce a fourth—and likely final—pregnancy in 2019.
Bookies have continued to slash the odds that another pregnancy announcement will happen, and it’s now just 2/1 odds that the couple will expand their brood and give Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis another sibling. While nothing is set in stone, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility for the pair.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
It is set to be a very big year for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. After announcing their engagement in 2017 and marrying in 2018, they also announced they were welcoming their first child together in the coming year. Naturally, there is a lot of speculation over whether or not the pair will be having a boy or a girl, and there has even been intense speculation about whether or not they would be welcoming twins. Meghan Markle is expected to give birth in the Spring.
In addition, the couple will be preparing for a big move as well, as they leave Kensington Palace for a new home at Frogmore Cottage, on the grounds of Windsor Castle. The move is part of the expected “split” Prince Harry and Prince William envision for the future of the monarchy and their defined roles within it.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank
Though she isn’t a fulltime royal, Princess Eugenie managed to also have a large portion of the spotlight thrust in her direction in 2018, announcing her engagement to Jack Brooksbank in January, and then following it up with her own royal wedding in October.
While she and her husband may keep things low-key in the new year, the pair could also add to the expected baby fever of the royal family. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but rumors were running rampant about a possible pregnancy ahead of the couple’s nuptials, with sources reporting that the Princess of York couldn’t wait to be a mother. If that’s true, then an announcement could come in just a few short months.
Princess Beatrice
It may not have to be too long before the royal family makes the announcement of another royal wedding. Princess Beatrice, Eugenie’s older sister, has been receiving some attention lately for her own relationship, with real estate tycoon Edoardo Mozzi. Rumors have already started suggesting the couple, who have been dating for only a few months, could plan on an engagement in 2019.
