What Happened To Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt? Weed And Anger Made Him ‘Dangerous’ To Children, Source Says
Brad Pitt has been very honest about his struggle with drug abuse. But the Hollywood A-lister’s former habits may have been too much of an issue for his wife, Angelina Jolie.
Jolie officially filed for divorce Monday from the “Ocean’s 11” actor, TMZ reported Tuesday. Although Jolie cited irreconcilable differences as the cause of their split, a source told the celebrity news site one of the reasons Jolie wants a divorce was because of Pitt’s “consumption of weed and possibly alcohol.” The source said Jolie believed his habits created "dangerous" conditions for their six children.
Jolie, 41, is asking for full physical custody of their kids, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt. Pitt, who exchanged nuptials with Jolie back in 2012, would have legal joint custody and visitation rights.
Pitt has not been shy about his drug use in past interviews, including one particularly famous Parade interview where he claimed he spent a lot of time depressed and smoking pot during his former marriage to ex-wife Jennifer Anniston. It’s unclear if Pitt’s marijuana and alcohol consumption is still a problem for the 52-year-old or if his substance abuse drove Jolie's decision to file for divorce.
Check out some of Pitt’s most notable quotes about his past drug use below:
“I liked to smoke a bit of grass at the time, and I became very sheltered. Then I got bored. I was turning into a damn doughnut, really. So I moved as far away from that as I could. I was done.” – Pitt on his early Hollywood days during a 2009 Parade interview.
“I spent the ‘90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony. I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage [to actress Jennifer Aniston] had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t.” – Pitt during a 2011 Parade interview.
“I’m Brad Pitt, and I’m a drug addict… No, my drug days have long since past.” – Pitt during a live screening of the movie, “Friday’s The House We Live In,” in October 2012.
“For a long time, I thought I did too much damage – drug damage… "I was a bit of a drifter. A guy who felt he grew up in something of a vacuum and wanted to see things, wanted to be inspired. I followed that other thing.” – Pitt talking about wasting opportunities in a 2013 interview with Esquire.
