What Happened To Jake Bailey? Emmy Rossum Responds To Makeup Artist’s Apparent Suicide
Jake Bailey, a prominent celebrity makeup artist in Hollywood, died of an apparent suicide in Los Angeles Friday, TMZ reported. He was 37 years old.
Bailey’s assistant found him in the morning and called the police. He seemingly died from carbon monoxide poisoning, law-enforcement sources told the celebrity-news site. His autopsy will reportedly be carried out by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
Bailey worked with Hollywood celebrities such as Grammy Award-winning singer Mariah Carey, “Come and Get it” singer Selena Gomez, “Firework” singer Katy Perry, reality-television personality Nicole Richie and “The Voice” coach Gwen Stefani. Most notably, he did Perry’s makeup for her September 2014 cover of Cosmopolitan magazine, TMZ said.
“The Day After Tomorrow” actress Emmy Rossum tweeted she was devastated to learn about Bailey’s death. “I am gutted to hear of my friend Jake's passing. I saw him on Sunday, we flew together on a plane. He made me laugh as always,” she tweeted to her 510,000 followers Friday. “I will miss his sense of humor, talent and kindness.”
Rossum added, “If there are angels in heaven, they just got a little prettier ... because Jake is up there painting their faces ... putting lashes on them.”
Bailey didn’t give any hints of depression on his Twitter account. He mainly used social media to promote his work. His profile picture shows him working on Perry.
His last tweet was a message about “Cake By The Ocean” by DNCE. “#cakebytheocean is an amazing song with an amazingly tragic video,” he wrote Saturday. “I’m trying to erase the video from my brain so I can still enjoy the song.”
At the time this article was written, Rossum was the only celebrity who had addressed Bailey’s death.
This is a developing story.
