It’s been a year since the Fab Four — Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton and Prince William — attended their first official event together, which means it’s also been that long since Markle opened up about her thoughts on the Time’s Up and Me Too movements.

“What’s interesting is that I hear a lot of people saying, when talking about girls’ empowerment and women as well, you’ll often hear people saying, ‘You’re helping them find their voices,’” the Duchess of Sussex said at the Royal Foundation Forum in London in February 2018.

She doesn’t believe that’s true, though. Markle believes they’ve already found their voices but just need a little help in using them.

“Women don’t need to find their voice, they need to feel empowered to use it and people need to be encouraged to listen,” the now-pregnant royal had said. “Right now with so many campaigns, Me Too and Time’s Up, there is no better time to really continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people really helping to support them, men included in that.”

Since marrying Prince Harry and joining the royal family in May 2018, Markle’s continued speaking out on the movements and philanthropic organizations that are important to her. She does this, and will continue to do this, because she believes people and charities can make a “tremendous difference.”
