What Meghan Markle’s Engagement Ring Revealed About Her Role In The Royal Family
Meghan Markle's engagement ring stands for much more than just her bond with Prince Harry. The ring and all of its features also give a glimpse into the Duchess of Sussex's role in the royal family.
Eddie LeVian, CEO of internationally renowned jeweler Le Vian, explained the ring's significance with an emphasis on its most sparkling characteristics.
“Harry’s choice of a diamond from Botswana delighted many. Botswana is the diamond industry’s biggest success story,” LeVian told Express. “Diamonds were discovered in Botswana in 1967 and today they remain the most important source of the country’s revenue."
“Diamonds have been instrumental in lifting the country out of poverty," he continued. "Enabling the government to invest in schools, roads, hospitals, and fighting the transmission of HIV.”
Named one of the world's most influential people by Time in 2018, Markle has always fought for the greater good, with her earliest known attempt at making things right dating back to a letter she penned to consumer goods company Proctor & Gamble at just 11-years-old. With this in mind, LeVian believes her engagement ring, although since altered, is a nod to the past, present, and future, especially with the incorporation of Prince Harry's mother, Princess Diana's, jewels on both sides of the Botswana diamond.
"In this way, he created a new jewel with a beautiful sense of history. The trilogy ring, otherwise known as a three-stone ring, is designed to be classic, timeless and symbolic of the past, present, and future within an engagement ring," the jeweler revealed. “By incorporating something from his mother, Harry not only captured part of his past to celebrate his present but also to pass part of his history to the future.”
That is a future full of philanthropy, charity, and, as reported by People, projects centered on "women's empowerment, girls' education, inclusivity and encouragement of social entrepreneurship."
