What Princess Diana’s Wedding Dress Designer Thinks Of Princess Eugenie’s Bridal Gown
Princess Diana’s wedding dress designer, Elizabeth Emanuel, recently shared her thoughts on Princess Eugenie’s bridal gown.
While speaking with People, Emanuel called Peter Pilotto’s creation very romantic and beautiful.
“I think there was a 1940s glamour about her – she really has that movie star quality, like she’s from another era. It had drama with the big skirt, but it wasn’t over the top. It was quite refined, but it made a statement too. I think she must have really enjoyed the design process. It looked like the dress of her dreams,” Emanuel said.
Emanuel and her ex-husband, David Emanuel, created Princess Diana’s wedding dress for her union with Prince Charles. At that time, the Emanuels were still considered young designers, and their work on the Princess of Wales’ dress catapulted them to the global stage. She said that the same thing may happen to Pilotto and Christopher De Vos.
“I think this will make them a household name because they did a really good job, and being quite a young label, I think it’s fabulous,” she said.
Meanwhile, Emanuel also compared Princess Eugenie’s dress to what Sarah Ferguson wore when she wed Prince Andrew in 1986.
“Everything in those days was dramatic. In recent years, everything has been pared down. This one was ‘classic romance,’ which I think is great news for brides,” she said.
Princess Eugenie also opted to not wear a veil on her wedding day because she wanted to show the world the scar on her back from her spine surgery in 2002.
“It was a perfect choice for her, and she looked relaxed and comfortable which is really important on your wedding day,” she said.
Princess Eugenie wed Jack Brooksbank on Oct. 12 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The couple had three receptions following their ceremony that took place on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13. The gatherings were hosted by Prince Andrew and Ferguson at the Royal Lodge.
