What We Know About ‘Marvel’s The Defenders’ So Far
Now that “Iron Fist” has premiered, fans are left waiting for him to join a team. “The Defenders” will be Marvel and Netflix’s next collaboration, and it’ll feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist teaming up to keep New York safe. Though Marvel keeps spoilers top secret, they have let fans know a few things about the eight-episode drama.
Timeline: Jessica Henwick, who plays Colleen Wing, revealed that the team up will take place shortly after the events of “Iron Fist.” “‘Defenders’ picks up pretty soon after Iron Fist,” Henwick told Bustle. “I think only a couple months have passed.”
The Villain: Sigourney Weaver will play Alexandra, the big bad that brings the Defenders together. How is she connected? What threat does she pose? Does she have powers? The answers to these questions are being kept top secret.
Cast: There will be quite a few good guys working against Alexandra. Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) will all bring friends. The list of confirmed returning characters includes:
- Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson)
- Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll)
- Elektra (Élodie Yung)
- Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson)
- Misty Knight (Simone Missick)
- Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss)
- Stick (Scott Glenn)
- Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor)
- Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick)
- Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville)
Midland Circle: The company was mentioned throughout “Daredevil” Season 2 and “Iron Fist” Season 1, and that’s not a coincidence. The group, which is connected to the Hand, were last seen in “Daredevil” digging a massive hole. The name was mentioned throughout “Iron Fist” as well, and it seems all of the Defenders have heard of them.
Following Up: The last seasons of “Daredevil” and “Iron Fist” ended with connections to the Hand that will obviously be resolved in “The Defenders,” but everyone’s cliffhangers will be dealt with, according to showrunner Marco Ramirez. “This was something I told the writers: It’s taking the questions that were posed in the finales of each of their shows,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “So the last times we saw them, where are they, and what are they going to need to do in order to grow up?”
Romance: At least one Defender will still find time to have a love life. Photos of a steamy make out session with Luke and Claire surfaced online late last year.
Trust Issues: The Defenders unite because they have to, not because they want to. Krysten Ritter told EW it was a “reluctant team-up” while Finn Jones told the outlet that Iron Fist has trouble playing well with others after the events of his show. Considering everything the heroes have been through, don’t expect them to really trust each other.
Release Date: Netflix still hasn’t revealed the exact release date for “The Defenders.” However, we know that it’s supposed to come out this summer.
