Prince William and Prince Harry married two women who didn’t have children before dating them. But royal fans are wondering what would’ve have happened if they wed someone who already has a baby.

On the online forum site Quora, some royal fans are wondering whether or not the child of the princes’ wives would be required to take part in royal duties after their mom marries the royals.

Elizabeth Nield, an ardent Anglophile, said that if something happens to Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, Prince William and Prince Harry would be allowed to remarry. If their second wives already have children, the youngsters would not be in line for the throne.

But if Prince William and Prince Harry would decide to adopt their wives’ children, the youngsters might be given a courtesy title but they will still not be in line for the throne.

“The child would not be forced to perform royal duties, especially as a child. However, they might be reasonably expected to appear with their mother and their stepfather and stepsiblings at family events,” she said.

Jennifer Daniels, a Spanish liaison, said that Prince Charles has stepchildren from his marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles but not much is known and said about them. Since Camilla’s children were already adults when she wed Prince Charles in a civil ceremony, they did not receive much buzz from the media since they were already living their own lives.

But if the royal’s stepchildren are still young, they may be present at Christmas and other holiday celebrations with the royal family.

Ardythe Basham said that it’s quite hard to speculate on Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship since they are both happily married to their wives.

“Should such a situation arise, much would depend on the age of the child and its other relatives. Probably the child would be included in family events as appropriate,” he said.
