Amid rumors that some of the NFL’s top quarterbacks could be traded during the 2022 offseason, it appears that the relationship between the Arizona Cardinals and their signal-caller could use some work. Kyler Murray removed any references to the Cardinals on his social media accounts, and reports suggest that the team is unhappy with how Murray handled Arizona’s playoff exit.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Murray was being described as a “self-centered, immature and finger pointer.” The quarterback reportedly believes he’s being used as a scapegoat for the Cardinals’ 34-11 loss against the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round. Arizona wants Murray to work on being a better leader, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

"I play this game for the love of it, my teammates, everyone who has helped me get to this position that believed in me [and] to win championships," Murray wrote on Instagram Monday in an apparent response to the latest reports. "All of this nonsense is not what I'm about, never has been, never will be. Anyone who has ever stepped between those lines with me knows how hard I go.

"Love me or hate me but I'm going to continue to grow and get better."

The Cardinals reportedly expect Murray to return next season, despite any issues the two sides might have with one another. Murray is signed for two more years and eligible to receive a contract extension. The quarterback could be looking for a new contract similar to the six-year, $258 million deal Josh Allen inked last year.

Murray produced 137 passing yards, two interceptions and a 40.9 passer rating in Arizona’s playoff loss. The Cardinals lost four of their last five regular-season games before being eliminated from the postseason.

Arizona won its first seven games of the season, and Murray was one of the NFL's MVP favorites. Despite his struggles as the year came to a close, Murray set career highs with a 100.6 passer rating and a 69% completion rate.

Murray made his second straight Pro Bowl appearance.
