What's The Most Livable US City In 2022? Affordability Played Big Part In Top Pick
Huntsville, Alabama, was named the best place to live in America on Tuesday by U.S. News and World Report.
The city’s affordable housing and quality of life landed it on the spot. The average home in Huntsville costs $192,667, compared to the national average of more than $365,000. Huntsville is also the largest city in Alabama with less than 500,000 people.
Colorado Springs, Colorado, came in second place and Green Bay, Wisconsin, took third place. Huntsville took first place from Boulder, Colorado, which held the spot for two years.
The list of cities is chosen by U.S. News and World Report each year by evaluating various different aspects of the qualifying cities.
The publication ranked it for its “housing affordability, the job market, net migration, desirability and quality of life, which includes crime rate, college readiness among high school students, overall well-being among residents, average commute time, access to quality health care and air quality."
For some Americans, Huntsville — it has a population of about 215,000 in the city limits — may seem like an ideal place to live. But after the pandemic, many Americans prefer the lower costs and air quality that the city offers, according to the report.
“Huntsville is kind of a different pocket from the rest of Alabama,” Wendy Payne, who owns a travel agency in Huntsville, told U.S. News and World Report.
