NBC’s long-running firefighter drama, “Chicago Fire,” is taking some personal time.

The series debuted its Season 7 midseason finale, “Always a Catch,” last week and won’t air a new episode tonight. A special holiday episode of “Little Big Shots” will air on the network tonight, instead, during the drama’s usual time slot.

Don’t worry, “Chicago Fire” fans, you won’t have to wait much longer for a new episode. The series comes back in early 2019 with a Jan. 9 return date. That’s when the next new showing — Season 7, episode 10 — will air.

In the meantime, see what showrunner Derek Haas had to say about the end of that Season 7 fall finale, which he opened up to TVLine all about.

“Those last six or seven minutes, I was like, ‘Oh man, people are going to be mad about Casey hooking up with Naomi. Then they’re going to be really mad about Severide and Stella,’” he said. “And then I was like, ‘Oh, and then we’ll throw one more thing at them 30 seconds later. That apartment we’ve known for five years is engulfed in flames.’”

Find out what’s to come after that cliffhanger ending when “Chicago Fire” Season 7 returns on NBC on Jan. 9 at 9 p.m. EST.
