When Princess Beatrice Could Reschedule Her Royal Wedding
After already rescheduling her wedding plans twice, Princess Beatrice has officially been forced to call off her wedding to Italian property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
The Princess of York and her fiancé announced the news on Friday, revealing that their May 29 nuptials with a ceremony at St. James’s Palace and a reception at the gardens at Buckingham Palace was no longer going to happen due to continued lockdowns and concerns from Coronavirus. The reception had previously been canceled, and while the couple was upset to have to call off their wedding entirely, they were expecting that the possibility would arise due to the pandemic.
“There are no plans to switch venues or hold a bigger wedding,” a source told People Magazine. “They aren’t even thinking about their wedding at this time. There will come a time to rearrange, but that’s not yet...the invitations were never actually sent out.”
The full cancelation came after the reception plans were scrapped, but the couple had prepared to potentially still go through with their ceremony with only two witnesses if needed. The pair has been known for their desire to have a more scaled-down wedding than other members of the royal family for months, but likely might still have the wedding they were planning on at a later date, though it remains to be seen when that would be. The situation is one that couples around the world have dealt with, as many have been forced to postpone or cancel weddings due to the pandemic and social distancing guidelines that have been in effect. It is unclear when the royal couple will reschedule, or if they will stick to the original plans.
In addition, this was only an additional change the couple had made to their plans since announcing their engagement last year, as they also had to contend with the scandals that enveloped Beatrice’s father, Prince Andrew. There was also rumored drama over whether or not she would invite her cousin, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan after the couple allegedly rubbed her the wrong way by announcing their pregnancy on the same day as her sister, Princess Eugenie’s wedding.
