Where Are ‘My 600-Lb Life’ Twins Brandi And Kandi Now? Update On Weight Loss After Gastric Bypass From Season 5
Season 5 of “My 600-Lb Life” had its first identical twins appear on the series. The show follows 15 people as they embark on a weight loss journey after having gastric bypass surgery. The procedure makes the stomach smaller so patients can control their eating better.
Even though Kandi and Brandi Dreier wanted to get weight loss surgery, their insurance would not cover them, The Columbian reported last week. But after their friend sent a submission to TLC’s hit show, the Vancouver sisters were picked to be on the series.
Brandi started her weight loss journey at 575 pounds and Kandi at 604 pounds. Even though the 30-year-old twins agreed to be on the series, they didn't watched it. “I had heard the title, but I didn’t know what the show was about,” Kandi told the publication Dec. 28.
The sisters had to lose 50 pounds before their doctor, Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, would approve them for surgery. They had to cut out unhealthy foods like soda and pizza. “Luckily, it wasn’t too difficult to completely cut that out,” Kandi said.
As shown in the trailer for the new season, Kandi had complications. The sisters didn’t detail what happened to The Columbian, saying people would have to watch the show.
They also could not reveal how much weight they lost since the procedure, which took place early last year. “We’re still losing weight,” Brandi said. “We just follow the diet that the doctor gives us and, eventually, if you lose enough weight, you might qualify for skin-removal surgery,” Kandi added.
As the sisters gained weight, their anxiety grew. “Over the past few years, going out with friends and family got more difficult,” Kandi said. “Everything came to a point to where we didn’t even want to go outside. It just got worse.”
That’s why the number on the scale doesn’t matter as much as being able to enjoy themselves in public. “I just want to be able to do things and not be scared,” Brandi said. “And live life and be healthy.”
Despite Kandi’s health scare after the procedure, the twins are doing well post-surgery. “We’re happy, obviously, because it’s just the beginning of our new life,” Brandi said. “It’s exciting, and it’s been 30 years of waiting.” Kandi added: “Everything, so far, seems to be going as planned.”
Season 5 of “My 600-Lb Life” premieres Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.
