KEY POINTS
- Several people protested outside Christopher and Roberta Laundrie’s North Port home
- Brian's parents said they had no clues about the whereabouts of their son
- Petito's parents urged Brian to come forward and help with the investigation
As the search for Brian Laundrie continues in the Gabby Petito case, the former's parents were photographed Tuesday returning from a shopping trip.
The family faced a woman shouting through a bullhorn as several people protested outside Christopher and Roberta Laundrie’s North Port home, media outlet WFLA reported.
Dozens of people have been protesting outside the Laundrie family home since Monday after the police launched a search for Brian in connection with the Petito case. According to the police, Brian returned to his parents' home on Sept. 1 where he lived with Petito before her disappearance and death. Her family had filed a missing complaint on Sept. 11, and her body was found in a Wyoming national park on Sept. 19.
On Tuesday, Petito's family held an emotional press conference as the FBI manhunt continued for her fiancé. They urged Brian, who has been on the run for nine days, to come forward and help with the ongoing investigation, according to the News Logic.
Brian's parents said Monday they had no clues about the whereabouts of their son and hoped the FBI can locate him soon, ABC 7 News reported.
"Chris and Roberta Laundrie do not know where Brian is. They are concerned about Brian and hope the FBI can locate him," their attorney Steven Bertolino said. "The speculation by the public and some in the press that the parents assisted Brian in leaving the family home or in avoiding arrest on a warrant that was issued after Brian had already been missing for several days is just wrong."
Meanwhile, an attorney for Petito's family expressed skepticism Tuesday that Brian's family would help in the FBI's ongoing search for him.
"The Laundrie's did not help us find Gabby. They're sure not going to help us find Brian," family attorney Richard Stafford said, according to the CNN. "For Brian, we're asking you to turn yourself in to the FBI or the nearest law enforcement agency."
As the search for Brian expands, a total of $30,000 have been offered to anyone who provides law enforcement officials with his whereabouts. Petito's cause of death has not yet been determined, but it has been ruled as a homicide. The 22-year-old had gone on a cross-country trip with her boyfriend before she went missing.
