Where To Buy Mattel’s Susan B. Anthony Barbie And Other Inspiring Women Barbies
Mattel (MAT) is paying tribute to heroines of the world with a line of Inspiring Women Barbies that will now feature Susan B. Anthony.
Anthony, who was a trailblazer for women, was arrested in 1872 at her Rochester, New York, home after she voted in the presidential election, which sparked the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, giving women the right to vote. She was pardoned by President Trump in August.
Mattel said the new Barbie collection “pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time.” The company continued by saying these “courageous women took risks, changed rules, and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before.”
The Anthony Barbie features a doll in a floor-length black dress that is accented with lace on the long sleeves and bodice. She has a cameo brooch that fastens her lace collar and is packaged in a specially-designed box with a doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity. She also wears boots and round-frame glasses.
The designer of the doll, which measures 13 inches high by 7 inches deep by 8 inches wide, is Kelley Lindberg. The release of the doll coincides with the 200th anniversary of Anthony’s birth.
Mattel worked with the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House to design the Barbie, USA Today reported. Victoria Brzustowicz, director of marketing and communications at the museum, told the outlet that Mattel “felt we were the people who would be the authorities” on Susan B. Anthony.
Mattel is offering the doll for sale on its website for $29.99. The website says there is a limit of two dolls per person. It is also being offered at Target.com.
Other Barbies in the Inspiring Women collection include NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, aviator Amelia Earhart, and Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.
Shares of Mattel were trading at $12.31 as of 9:53 a.m. EDT, up 24 cents or 1.95%.
