Where Is Emmy Rossum After Leaving ‘Shameless’?
Sunday’s “Shameless” Season 10 premiere won’t show Fiona. Actress Emmy Rossum opted to leave the Showtime series last season, and her character was written out. It won’t be long before Rossum is on TV again though.
Rossum will star as the titular character in a miniseries called “Angelyne.” The series is based on the true story of the mysterious Los Angeles model, one of the first women considered to be famous just for being famous. Her background was kept largely secret until the Hollywood Reporter published their 2017 investigation.
“It's a poignant and bizarre tale about the hunger for fame, the sexualization of women and the erasing of past traumas,” Rossum said in a statement.
The former “Shameless” star is executive producing with her Composition 8 company, and she’s teaming up with her husband Sam Esmail. He’ll produce under EsmailCorp. The series is being developed at Universal Cable Productions and is set to hit Peacock, NBC Universal's new streaming service, next year, according to THR.
Rossum also made a cameo appearance in Esmail’s TV show, “Mr. Robot,” last month. She was in the Season 4 premiere as a Christmas caroler.
The actress is also stepping behind the camera more. After making her directorial debut on “Shameless,” Rossum directed episode 6 of Amazon’s “Modern Love,” which premiered in October.
Emmy is keeping busy, but she still plans to check in with the Gallaghers. She tweeted that she’s excited to watch “Shameless” Season 10 since it’s the first time she can view it as a fan.
At the beginning of Season 9, Rossum announced it was her last year on “Shameless.” Fiona was written out by leaving town, leaving it open for her to come back.
“I would never close my door on the family,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly. “Like I said in what I wrote and what I said to them repeatedly, they should just think of me being down the block. I’m just in New York. It’s not like I’ll never be in L.A. or Chicago ever again, so I’m not that far away.”
“Shameless” Season 10 premieres Sunday on Showtime.
