Where Is Marilou Danley Now? Stephen Paddock’s Girlfriend Was In Philippines
Marilou Danley was reportedly traveling through Asia when boyfriend Stephen Paddock opened fire from the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino Sunday. Paddock killed 59 people and injuring more than 500, making it the deadliest attack on U.S. soil in modern history.
Danley, 62, flew to Hong Kong September 25, NBC News reported Tuesday. At the time of the Las Vegas mass shooting, Danley was in the Philippines.
Paddock had wired $100,000 to the Philippines the week before the massacre. It wasn’t immediately known if the money was meant for Danley, or family or a different reason, NBC News noted.
Danley was slated to return to the U.S. Wednesday to discuss the mass murder. It was unknown what airport she was supposed to arrive in.
She and Paddock started dating in spring 2017. They shared a home in Mesquite, Nevada.
Danley was originally a person of interest, but authorities said was likely not involved in the slaughter “at this time.”
“We have had conversations with her and we believed her, at this time, not to be involved. But obviously that investigation will continue,” Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lombardo said. “She was not with [Paddock, the suspected shooter] when he checked in. We have discovered he was utilizing some of her identification.”
Paddock, 66, fired rounds at a crowd of 22,000 people. His motive wasn’t immediately known, though some Twitter users accused him of being a terrorist.
President Donald Trump refused to talk about possible gun legislation. Instead, he called Paddock a derranged man.
“He was a sick man, a demented man – a lot of problems, I guess," Trump told reporters at the White House Tuesday. “We're dealing with a very, very sick individual.”
Danely lived in Australia for a number of years. One of her former neighbors was shocked to hear she might possibly be involved in the infamous killing spree.
“I can’t believe it… She is bubbly, petite and full of life,” the unidentified neighbor told the Gold Coast Bulletin Monday. “I would never have thought she would be tied up in anything like this.”
“She still looks the same,” the neighbor said. “She has a daughter and a granddaughter.”
Jason Aldean, the singer who was on stage during the shooting, took to Instagram Monday morning to share his grief.
“Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe. My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken#stopthehate,” he wrote.
