Actors who played the children of the Trapp family in the legendary movie "The Sound of Music" pose in Salzburg on Nov. 1, 2000. Charmian Carr, the actress widely recognized for her role as Liesel in "The Sound of Music," passed away Saturday. Carr, who was 73-years-old, succumbed to a rare type of dementia, according to a statement released by her family.

Carr is widely known for her role as the eldest Von Trapp daughter alongside Julie Andrews in the famous 1965 musical. Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization confirmed the star’s death Monday, and a statement was published on the actresses’ website.

After her role as Liesel, Carr left the film industry and became an interior designer in California. Her clients included Ernest Lehman, the screenwriter for "The Sound of Music," and pop star Michael Jackson, according to CNN.

In the wake of her death, Kym Karath, the fellow actress who played Gretl, the youngest of the Von Trapp children in the musical, took to Twitter to express her condolences, writing, “It is with infinite sadness that I share the tragic news that the precious & exquisite Charmian Carr, beautiful Liesel, has passed away.”

Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa): Menzies continued to act and eventually appeared in the science fiction television series "Logan’s Run." She now lives in Los Angeles with her family and works for the Urich Fund for Sarcoma Research at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Christopher Plummer (Captain Von Trapp): Plummer is a successful actor who has appeared in films like "Cleopatra" and "A Beautiful Mind." He wrote an autobiography and now lives with his third wife in Connecticut.

Julie Andrews (Maria): Andrews has maintained a successful career as a performer and actress. She continued to act in films like "Mary Poppins" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie." Andrews has recently lent her voice to successful voice acting roles in "Enchanted," "Shrek The Third" and "Despicable Me."
