Where To Watch ‘Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory’ And ‘Blazing Saddles’ In Theaters This Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day weekend gives the working force and school children one last summer hurrah. But what happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate for beach days and barbeques? With Tropical Storm Hermine set to bring rain to some shore points, the perfect solution for fun this holiday weekend could be the movies.
Following Gene Wilder’s death on Sunday, August 28, AMC Theatres is going to bring two of the actor’s greatest hits back to the big screen. The 1971 beloved musical “Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory” and the 1974 comedy “Blazing Saddles” will be available to watch in theaters for just $5 each on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4.
Wilder starred in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” as the elusive Willy Wonka, a candy maker who shut down his factory after his rivals attempted to steal his secrets. He later re-opened his factory, but didn’t hire any back any of the townsfolk that used to work there. With his factory viewed as a giant mystery, Wonka decided to place five “Golden Tickets” into his candy bars. Those that found the candy would be granted a tour of the factory, along with a lifetime supply of chocolate.
Wilder went on to star as Jim, the Waco Kid, in Mel Brooks’ western comedy “Blazing Saddles.” Jim was a “recovering alcoholic gunslinger” who aided Bart (Cleavon Little), a black railroad worker turned Sheriff. The two worked together to stop a team of villains sent to destroy the town of Rock Ridge.
Unfortunately, the films will only be in select AMC theatres. Check out the list of AMC movie theatres participating in the Gene Wilder weekend tribute, and click HERE to view times:
