Which ‘Girls’ Star’s Grandparent Wrote The Original ‘The Sound Of Music’ Book?
“Girls” star Zosia Mamet recently shared a shocking information about her family. During her recent appearance on “Inside the Actor’s Studio” with her “Girls” co-stars, Mamet said that her grandfather, Russel Crouse, was the one who wrote “The Sound of Music.”
“Girls” stars Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke were both shocked to hear what Mamet just said. Allison Williams jokingly scolded Mamet for keeping such an important detail about her life from them. “You guys, I saved that for right now,” Mamet told them.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Crouse and his collaborator, Howard Lindsay, wrote “The Sound of Music” book. It was adapted for the stage in 1959 and won five Tony Awards. In 1965, it was adapted for the big screen. Julie Andrews played the lead role in the movie. Mamet comes from an award-winning family. Her mom, Lindsay Crouse, is an Oscar-nominated actress. Her dad, David Mamet, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright.
Meanwhile, the sixth and final season of HBO’s “Girls” will premiere on Feb. 12 at 10 p.m. EST. Ahead of episode 1, the stars dished on how they got cast for Dunham’s original TV series.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Kirke admitted that she turned down the show several times because she was working as a professional painter and was happy with her job. But since she was about to give birth, she needed the money, so she signed the contract to play Jessa.
Williams shared that she got a call from Dunham and was ready for the role, but she stipulated that she did not want to go nude on TV. The executive producer agreed so Williams never showed any of her private parts. Mamet, on the other hand, wasn’t supposed to be a series regular. “Girls” was supposed to be about three women in New York, but Mamet’s audition was so impressive they had to create a character for her.
