Who Is Abigail Klem? Ivanka Trump To Step Away From Her Fashion Brand To Move To Washington
Ivanka Trump, who is leaving the Trump Organization and her apparel and accessories business to move to Washington when her father is sworn in as president, Wednesday appointed Abigain Klem to lead her company.
Klem, a lawyer-turned-fashion executive, currently is president the fashion brand Trump started in 2007. Klem, who came to the company in 2013 as chief brand officer, will be working with a board of directors to manage day-to-day operations.
“I am confident that under her leadership the company will continue creating smart, solution-oriented product and content,” Trump posted on Facebook. “My brothers will oversee the Trump Organization, and I know that in their capable hands the business will thrive.”
Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, is expected to work as a senior adviser to his father-in-law at the White House and the couple is moving their family from New York to Washington.
“I plan to take time to settle our three young children into their new home and schools,” Trump wrote, adding she plans to work on such issues as education, the empowerment of women and girls, “leveling the playing field for female entrepreneurs and job creators and unleashing the potential of women in the workplace.”
Klem told eonline she broke into the fashion industry, working for a summer at a boutique. Her entire paycheck went to a new wardrobe for school. She became a lawyer 15 years ago and moved to Diane von Furstenberg in 2003, rising to executive vice president of merchandising in 2007.
“We have built a terrific team. I love working with them every day,” Klem said of the Ivanka Trump brand. “They are so creative and optimistic. I learn so much from them. I feel very proud of the work that our team has done.”
Klem, like Trump, is a working mother.
