Who Is Anna Marie Tendler? Comedian John Mulaney Files For Divorce From Wife

Standup comedian John Mulaney and his wife Anna Marie Tendler announced their divorce Monday after nearly seven years of marriage.

Mulaney, 38, reportedly is focused on completing his rehab stint as well as his return to the stage.

The couple wed in Boiceville, New York, at the Onteora Mountain House in October 2014. They initially met during a group getaway to Martha's Vineyard a few years prior and the couple rode in Tendler's car on the way home.

While many know Mulaney from his many standup acts, Tendler has also been a rather public figure. She works as a makeup artist and studied hairstyling at Vidal Sassoon and the Make-Up Designory after high school, she told Architectural Digest in March 2018. The Connecticut native also studied photography at Parsons School of Design in New York and earned a bachelor's at The New School in writing and psychology.

Her work as a makeup artist has been featured in various television shows and comedic acts including “The Old Man and the Seymour,” “CollegeHumor Originals,” “Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious,” “Oh, Hello” and “Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812.” She has also worked as a makeup artist on Mulaney's comedy acts.

Tendler, 35, is also mentioned many times in Mulaney’s various stand-up acts, along with their French bulldog, Petunia.

News of the divorce took many by surprise given Mulaney's public comments and the couple's presence on social media. Tendler has over 80,000 followers on Instagram. Mulaney has 1.5 million Twitter followers.

The divorce also has drawn increased media attention because of Tendler's public response. "I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage," Tendler said through her spokesperson.

In February, Mulaney finished his 60-day stay in a Pennsylvania rehab facility for addiction to cocaine, alcohol and other drugs. The Chicago native has often discussed his history of substance abuse. In an interview in September 2019, Mulaney said that at an early age he "drank for attention."

Tendler drew attention in 2017 when she was among the women who accused Hollywood actor Ben Affleck of unwanted sexual advances. She released a statement about Affleck groping her at a Golden Globes party in 2014 and posted about the incident on Twitter.
