Who is Bob Corker? Republican Senator Said Tillerson Separates America From 'Chaos'
Responding to an NBC news report Wednesday, Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker spoke candidly to reporters regarding Trump administration. He commented on the news report that was published on Oct. 4 suggesting that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had to be talked out of resigning from his post after differences with President Donald Trump.
Corker, who is a chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and has also worked closely with Tillerson, refused to comment on the matter at hand, but, was quick to sharply remark about the Trump administration.
“I think Secretary Tillerson, Secretary Mattis and Chief of Staff Kelly are those people that help separate our country from chaos, and I support them very much. And I don't know what he may have said after the briefing. I watch from — I mean, look, I see what's happening here. I deal with people throughout the administration, and [it] from my perspective is an incredibly frustrating place where, as I watch, okay — and I can watch very closely on many occasions — I mean, you know, he ends up not being supported in the way that I would hope a secretary of state would be supported,” Corker said, Washington Post reported.
Twitter was soon bombarded with people reacting to Corker’s comments about POTUS. Some even suggested that Corker referred to Trump when he said there would be chaos if Tillerson, Secretary Mattis, and Chief of Staff Kelly left.
A Twitter user by the name Edan Clay, writer/editor for the resistance tweeted: "@BobCorker said Kelly, Mattis, & Rex Tillerson are the people separating this country from CHAOS. CHAOS = @POTUS think about that."
Another Twitter user by the name Stephanie hailed Corker for speaking the truth about Trump. “@BobCorker Kudos to you for speaking the truth about the peril our great country faces with Trump in the White House,” she tweeted.
Bob Corker is an American businessman, politician and the junior United States Senator from Tennessee in service since 2007. He also served as Tennessee’s commissioner of finance and mayor of Chattanooga before being elected to the Senate in 2006. Corker is a member of the Republican Party and is also the chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
This is not the first time that Corker has openly criticized the Trump administration. In August, Corker made some strong comments when he said that Trump has not demonstrated stability. He had said, “The president has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability, nor some of the competence, that he needs to demonstrate in order for him to be successful,” Tennessean reported.
His comments had also attracted Trump’s attention, who had then rebuked Corker in a tweet saying: "Strange statement by Bob Corker considering that he is constantly asking me whether or not he should run again in '18. Tennessee not happy!"
Corker, who graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1974 with a degree in Industrial Management, announced on September 26, 2017, that he would not run for re-election in 2018.
