Who Is Claudia Tenney? Congresswoman Says Mass Murderers 'End Up Being Democrats'
Rep. Claudia Tenney, of the 22nd District of New York, said in a radio interview Wednesday that mass murderers are often Democrats. “It’s interesting that so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats,” Tenney told talk-show host Fred Dicker on WGDJ. “The media doesn’t talk about that either.”
The comment was made while the two discussed the recent mass shooting of 17 high school students in Parkland, Florida. Tenney, a member of the House of Representatives and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, also said she thinks schools should have metal detectors and more security. The Republican congresswoman was elected to the House during the 2016 elections after serving as a member of the New York State Assembly.
Her stance on the Second Amendment was important to her campaign and also to President Donald Trump’s win in her district as well, she said during the radio interview.
When CNN reached out to Tenney’s office for further information about the claim that many people who commit mass murders are Democrats the office only issued a statement, CNN reported. That statement said she was “fed up” with the media and liberals who she said, politicize tragedy and “Demonize law-abiding gun owners and conservative Americans every time there is a horrible tragedy.”
“That’s what scares me most, a lot of these legal gun owners are going to be targeted now,” she said about the fact that government agencies didn’t stop the shooter before he allegedly killed 17 students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Tenney’s voting record in the House shows that she’s voted for concealed carry as well as voted against a bill proposed in New York state that was meant to expand the definition of assault weapons. A member of the NRA, Tenney has also taken thousands in campaign money from the group and has an “A” rating.
