McClure was born Dec. 11, 1978, in Chilhowie, Virginia. He graduated from Emory and Henry College, Virginia, and started his NASCAR career in 2003, according to Famous Birthdays.
His NASCAR's Cup Series debut was at Talladega, where he drove the No. 04 I Can Learn Chevy in 2004. After making the field in 35th position, he went on to finish 26th.
He participated in Las Vegas race in 2005, where he rode No. 73 Raabe Racing Enterprises Chevy, starting 41st. He finished 32nd in the race. In 2006, he attempted and made the UAW-Ford 500 and finished 32nd in the 04 Morgan-McClure Motorsports Chevy.
McClure’s career peaked in 2009, a year after he teamed up with his sponsor Hefty. He moved to Rensi/Hamilton Racing, where he drove the No. 24 Ford Fusion. Apart from qualifying for every single race in the year, he also finished a career best 17th in the final points standing.
He was involved in a 16-car pileup at the Talladega Superspeedway in 2012. He was airlifted to the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was treated for a concussion and internal bruises.
In a 2015 interview with Front Stretch, McClure admitted the horrific accident had changed his outlook on racing and life.
“The accident at Talladega changed me,” he said. “Certainly the illnesses that I had in subsequent years were a result of some of the treatments during that process. Physically, I’m not the same. I’m not the same person I was at certain aspects, not just the arthritis but just some things are different.”
McClure is married to Miranda McClure. They have seven daughters — Mabriegh Elizabeth, Maryleigh Isabella, Mirabella Rileigh, Merritt Hetteigh Mae, Myanna Brookleigh, Meraline Everleigh, and Melania.
After Eric and Miranda welcomed their seventh daughter in March 2017, the proud father took to Twitter and posted a picture of their newborn.
The former NASCAR driver has also been very open about how much he loves his daughters.
Apart from being interested in sports cars, Eric is also a huge basketball fans, often tweeting about upcoming games and his favorite teams in the sport.
“Reflecting on the game last night,” Eric tweeted on Sunday. “Needs to be said that Coach Bennett and @TeamCoachBuzz are everything that’s good about college basketball programs. Great men that stand for the right things, great coaches. The commonwealth is fortunate.”
On Feb. 10, he posted: “I will not tweet about the Uva game and what’s at stake and jinx it. I will not tweet about the Uva game and what’s at stake and jinx it. I will not tweet about the Uva game and what’s at stake and jinx it. I will not tweet about the Uva game and what’s at stake and jinx it.”
