Who Is Hannah Blackwell? Meet Phillip Phillips' Fiancée After He Proposed For Christmas

Phillip Phillips is one step closer to being off the market officially after girlfriend Hannah Blackwell accepted his proposal on Christmas. The star took to his verified Facebook page to announce the good news to fans with a photo and telling caption.

“My best Christmas surprise is happening,” the “American Idol” star captioned the picture Friday. “We're engaged yall!” The picture shows Phillips with a shocked grin. Blackwell playfully shows off her diamond ring with her hand strategically over her mouth.

Nearly 140,000 people liked the post, but not everyone was overjoyed. In fact, some bemoaned they would never have a chance with Phillips now that he’s engaged to be married. April Scott wrote, “You realize you just broke a million hearts, right?” Lynda Balderaz Schrack added, “So does this mean it's over between us?”

Despite some of the negative feedback, Blackwell, 22, didn’t let anything keep her down. I've been dreaming of this for over 20 years. “I've been dreaming of this guy for just that long,” she wrote on Instagram Friday. “Overwhelmed with happiness.”

The “Home” singer, 24, apparently went the romantic route for his proposal, a source told the Hollywood Reporter. "He told her to meet him at the house and when she got there he was down on one knee,” the source said. "He proposed to her in their new home in Georgia.”

Apparently, romance is his style. He described their first kiss on KBIG-FM, Los Angeles, after he won “American Idol.” "We had just got through with a date,” he said, according to the Huffington Post. “I had a lot of fun and everything. I gave her a hug, and I said, ‘Would you mind if I kissed you?’ She said yes, so I freakin’ kissed her, and that’s what happened. It was very magical.”

The couple met in 2012 while volunteering at a women's and children’s center. Blackwell stayed by his side throughout Season 11 of “American Idol,” and he told People, “[I] love her to death” after he came in first place. Blackwell appeared in his video for “Home” and accompanied him on tour frequently, THR added.
