Former MLB player John Wetteland was arrested Monday on a child sex abuse charge. He was released from Texas’ Denton County jail on the same day after posting a $25,000 bond.

Wetteland, 52, is accused of continually sexually abusing a child under the age of 14.

Prior to his arrest, Wetteland was known for his prowess as a major-league pitcher. He spent 12 seasons from 1989-2000 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Montreal Expos, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers.

Wetteland spent years as one of the best closers in baseball, making three All-Star teams and recording 330 saves with a 2.93 career ERA. He won the 1996 World Serie MVP award in his final season with the Yankees. Wetteland was honored by the Rangers and inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2005.

After retirement, Wetteland worked as the bullpen coach for both the Washington Nationals and Seattle Mariners. He last had a role on a major-league club in 2010.
