Who Is Kerry Rear? Missing Sanford Woman Found Dead In Maine
The body of a Sanford, Maine woman named Kerry Rear who had been missing since Jan. 22, was found about 200 yards near to the convenience store she was last spotted at, the Sanford Police Department said.
Authorities discovered Rear’s body "around 2 p.m. in a wooded area off Country Club Road in Sanford, about 200 yards from where she was last seen alive," the Sanford Police Department said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
"Today, the Sanford Police Department and Maine Warden Service had been searching an area of woods off of Country Club Road, approximately 200 yards from where she was last seen," read the statement.
Rear was last seen in a Lil'Mart convenience store in Sanford, which is located at a distance of 45 minutes southeast of Portland. Rear was believed to have got up into a vehicle after leaving the store, according to a missing person poster circulated by the police after she went missing in January.
The Maine Police Department posted a surveillance footage in February on their Facebook page after Rear's disappearance and described her as being "disoriented, wet, and in stocking feet. She was extremely disoriented and believed she was in a bank."
Sanford police wrote in the post that "Rear left the convenience store, but returned a short time later and inquired about making a bank deposit."
"She was last seen walking toward Country Club Road wearing sweat pants and a black puffy jacket with a pink-lined hood," the post read.
After Rear's disappearance, her parents offered a $5000 cash reward on Feb. 3 for anyone who could provide information that would lead to Rear, according to a statement on the Sanford Police Department website. The police department had been searching for her in the woods and elsewhere since her disappearance. They issued a missing statement on Jan. 30 which said "On January 28, 2017, the Sanford Police Department received information that Kerry Rear, age 40, of Patriots Place in Sanford had not been seen or heard from since January 22nd. A concerned family member contacted the department and requested assistance in locating her."
Police did not comment on whether her death was considered to be suspicious or not. The Medical Examiner's Office is supposed to confirm her identity and the cause of death, according to local new sources.
Rear’s family told the Portland Press Herald earlier this year that Rear suffered from mental health problems in the past that were not specified and that she was dealing with mounting issues in her life which likely may have led to a breakdown.
