Who Is Lance Spiegel? Brad Pitt Hires Family Law Attorney Amid Divorce Proceedings With Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt has enlisted the services of family law attorney Lance Spiegel to bolster his legal team ahead of his divorce with Angelina Jolie.

Lance Spiegel is a Hollywood family law attorney who has represented actress Eva Longoria — in her split from NBA star Tony Parker — Russell Simmons, Heather Locklear, Charlie Sheen and Michael Jackson, to name a few. According to reports, he was brought on board Thursday to advise Pitt, in addition to his existing team consisting of Hollywood lawyer Alan Hergott and manager Cynthia Pett.

Divorce attorney Laura Wasser, also known as “Disso Queen” (for dissolution of marriage), will represent Jolie, 41, in the proceedings, just as she did during Jolie’s divorce from Billy Bob Thornton.

Jolie filed the divorce documents on Monday, following a two-year marriage and 12 years together for the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” couple, citing irreconcilable differences. While the actress has not asked for any child or spousal support, she wants the sole physical custody of their six children — Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8. Pitt, 52, is to be granted visitation rights, according to Jolie’s request.

Pitt, however, is unlikely to accept this demand as the “sole custody for either of them doesn’t seem like what’s best for the children,” a source previously told People magazine.

Pitt released a statement Tuesday saying: “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”

According to reports, the actor is currently under investigation by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services over accusations of verbal abuse toward one of his children during an incident last week on the estranged couple’s private plane.
