Melania Trump has been reluctant to take on White House duties as the first lady of the United States, living with her 10-year-old son Barron in New York City's Trump Towers, but the last few days presented important political moments for her family.

Sunday night was the lavish governor’s dinner, a major black-tie event and the first festivity Trump has thrown as first lady. She then attended Tuesday night the president’s first speech to a joint-Congress, using her guest list to accompany her husband’s political agenda, including an example of success from a private school, family members of victims killed by undocumented immigrants and the widow to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Trump received a standing ovation upon entering the joint session, donning a black-sequined Michael Kors Spring 2017 outfit reportedly worth $9,500.

But the first lady won’t be living with President Donald Trump in the first family’s presidential quarters anytime soon. And she isn’t interested in advising the White House cooking and entertainment staff just yet, either. Instead, Melania Trump is residing in her $100 million penthouse with the first son as he continues attending private school in Manhattan’s upper west side neighborhood.

The first family’s living arrangements have caused unprecedented challenges for the Secret Service and local authorities, with the Big Apple reportedly spending millions to keep Melania Trump and Barron safe each week they continue to stay in the city.

It’s unclear when the rest of the Trumps will move to Washington, D.C., though Melania Trump said she enjoyed dining with the nation’s politicians and organizing events surrounding her husband’s presidency.

"I am proud to invite all the governors to the White House for this important annual event," Melania Trump said in a statement Sunday. "We come together as one nation, leaving political labels and partisan interests behind."

Meanwhile, Melania Trump has reportedly ordered the White House to maintain former first lady Michelle Obama's garden while she lives out the majority of her husband's first 100 days in New York City.
